About CyberHalides Jazz

The name "CyberHalides" is not Greek, it's a photographer's pun on the active light-sensitive chemical compound in traditional photographic film and paper - "silver halides".

I'm a photographer, and jazz photography is one my specialisations because it enables me to combine two of my interests. There is an active jazz scene in Canberra at the moment which I think is worth documenting in photo. So this site contains images of live jazz, mostly in Australia, particularly Canberra. New releases are usually announced on the Cyberhalides Jazz Facebook Page facebook

Why are some photos in colour? These are mostly shots from several years ago. I now exclusively publish and print in B&W. I prefer it, it suits jazz, and the lighting in many venues doesn't result in good colour.

Framed & unframed copies of most images are available for sale. For further details, contact me or email me.

Jazz Sites supported by CyberHalides Jazz

CyberHalides Jazz supports the following high quality venues, sites and stations:

Jazz In Concert at The Gods at the ANU on (usually) the first Tuesday of each month, but check the guide for variations to this schedule.

ABC Jazz on digital radio or online.

extempore by Miriam Zolin - a website and publishing house for arts and writing that is about, inspired by and responding to jazz and improvised music. Issue 5 of the extempore journal contains the eleven images in my recent ANU exhibition "Canberra Ain't Got No Soul ... but ... It Sure Got Plenty of Jazz!!".

extempore 6 is planned for 2012!! An anthology of writing inspired by jazz and improvised music, in a new book format. If you liked the extempore journals, you'll be pleased to know that they are planning to continue the tradition of essays, interviews, fiction, poetry, photographs and a CD of original tunes. They're offering the chance to pre-purchase and suggest content. Please join CHJ in supporting this valuable part of the local jazz scene.
