CyberHalides Jazz » 2014 » Mackey Bros Quintet - Belgium Emb - 28 Nov 2014

A gig with a difference. While embassy concerts are not that uncommon in Canberra, jazz concerts at embassies are rare. What made this notable was not just the celebration of the 200th anniversary of Adolphe Sax, but also His Excellency the Belgium ambassador on bass. The quintet entertained the capacity crowd of 500 with a very tight set exploring the history of the jazz saxophone, and were followed by the Telopea Park School Jazz Band, who demonstrated that music is alive and very well indeed in the local education system.

A concert to celebrate the bicentennial of the birth of Adolphe Sax featuring the Mackey Brothers Quintet with H.E. Mr. Jean-Luc Bodson, Ambassador of Belgium (John Mackey - tenor sax; Carl Mackey - alto sax; Tate Sheridan - keyboard; Jean-Luc Bodson - bass; Mark Sutton - drums), and also the Telopea Park School Jazz Band, held at the Belgium Embassy --- Yarralumla, Canberra, ACT
