The Italian Project has been performed a number of times over the course of this year in Sydney and Melbourne. Wang was my first chance to catch this jazz-infused set of arrangements of traditional Italian and Sicilian folk songs, together with some more recent material. Even without understanding the words, the emotion in these songs came through loud and clear. What a beautiful voice Virna has, well suited to these arrangements she put together jointly with well-known Italophile Paul Grabowsky.
